Doctors, Hospitals, Pharmacies, Medical Equipment and More

Medical specialists, hospitals and medical equipment and supplies is a large and important category for individuals with medical needs and for family caregivers. We have attempted to break down specialty groups in a somewhat logical fashion and to provide education on each of those categories, followed by a list of providers. We are actively seeking providers for many of these subcategories at this time, so these sections of our site will continue to grow over the next several months. Provider listings are already available under many of the subcategories under this section. Read More

To tackle the subcategories in this section of the site in alphabetical order, we begin with geriatric case managers, trained individuals (often R.N.'s or social workers) who can assess care needs, recommend services, coordinate care and facilitate communications among the individual, family and physicians.

Geriatric/gerontologic assessment programs are evaluation programs for older adults who have experienced unexplained cognitive or physical declines or sudden behavioral changes. They attempt to diagnose problems and recommend future care.

Individuals with changes in hearing may benefit from the services of an audiologist (who tests hearing and makes recommendations) and the use of hearing aids (devices inserted in or behind the ear to improve hearing).

Hospitals provide in-patient and out-patient care for acute medical problems (those coming on suddenly) and chronic, long-term conditions. Specialized hospitals exist for rehabilitation and for mental health treatment.

Products, supplies and technologies developed to help treat or care for individuals with medical needs have been divided into medical equipment categories and a technology category for newer products.

Medical ethicists help patients, families, doctors and other care providers consider and better understand care options in difficult situations.

Mental health challenges, including illnesses, addictions and responses to trauma, can be fully as serious as physical conditions (and many mental illnesses have physical causes). Medical specialists, therapists and facilities exist to help individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

Pharmacies dispense medications and advise patients regarding their use and their interactions with other drugs. In addition, they generally sell a number of non-prescription drugs and related items.

Physicians and surgeons include a number of medical specialties. We are currently seeking DFW area physicians and surgeons who would like to be included on our web site and expect this section to grow over the next several months. We ask that the physicians who wish to be included on our site be experienced in the care of older adults, accept new patients at this time and accept Medicare as payment.

Rehabilitation services are designed to help individuals, after illnesses or injuries, regain strength and physical and cognitive function. Speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy are included in rehabilitation services. Some facilities offer in-patient rehabilitation programs. Private rehabilitation companies offer services in your home, at their location or in the facility of your choice.

Please visit the subcategories of our site that interest you. We are adding to these sections weekly, so be patient with us as we grow.
